Hanukkah is a Hebrew holiday that starts on the 25th day of the Hebrew month of Kislev. Usually, that falls during December.
Hanukkah, also called the "Festival of Dedication" or the "Festival of Lights" is done in memory of the victory of the Maccabees over the Syrians in 166 BC. It's also in honor of the re-dedication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem after it was defiled by the Syrians.
The main custom during Hanukkah is to light a candle each night of the festival in a menorah. There is one candle for each night. Gifts are traditionally exchanged each night.
